In the time frame between my last post and this, I have graduated from university, and have spent the time looking for work.

I am currently looking for something within my degree field; a BFA with an emphases in Computer Imaging. Essentially, that means anything that is creative, and deals with 5 volts or more of electricity, I’m the guy you’re looking for.

Web design and maintenance (HTML, DHTML, light Javascript, light CSS, Flash and AS3)
Video Editing and post processing
Max/MSP/jitter work, or Arduino work
Print and Digital Graphic Design
Photo enhancement/manipulation (photoshop)
Typesetting
..And more! I’m a versatile individual, and can easily pick up other skills fairly quickly.

Updates will continue again once I get a chance at some free time, and some disposable income!

Using cv.jit or Computer Vision for Jitter to track a designated object (by selecting it with mouse) to determine the MIDI output. Uses real-time performance and spatial/time based input to create a composition ala John Cage.

A better way to share files!

I was playing around with a better way to share files over a blog structure such as this one, and surprise-surprise, WordPress already had an answer to our problem. While the compressed-text format of sharing projects is good and handy, what if we have multiple patches or other files that need to go along with our patch? The answer is box.net, and the box.net wordpress widget.

If you look to the left of this post, you will see a box titled “SEANS FILES box” This is the box.net widget with a file that you can download (it is a .maxpat file!)

To get one yourself, all you have to do is click the “make your own box.net widget” link on my widget, sign up at box.net for a free account (limited in file sizes(25mb) , max size (1gb), and whatnot, but we don’t need much) and add the sidebar widget through your blogs dashboard, and bang, a new way to upload files for the rest of us to download, pretty easy to use, too.

My recommendation though, use the compressed-text format still for small patches or single patches, and the file service for zips/rars and other files.

Abstract: In this exploratory essay the author describes the shared context of Sculptor turned Games Designer Keita Takahashi, best known for his PS2 title Katamari Damacy, and superstar contemporary artist Takashi Murakami. The author argues that Takahashi’s videogame is an expression of the technical, aesthetic and cultural values Murakami describes as SuperFlat, and as such expresses continuity between the popular culture and contemporary art of two of Japan’s best-known international creative practitioners.

“Videogames are the first stage in a plan for machines to help the human race, the only plan that offers a future for intelligence. For the moment, the insufferable philosophy of our time is contained in the Pac-Man. I didn’t know when I was sacrificing all my coins to him that he was going to conquer the world. Perhaps [this is] because he is the most graphic metaphor of Man’s Fate. He puts into true perspective the balance of power between the individual and the environment, and he tells us soberly that though there may be honor in carrying out the greatest number of enemy attacks, it always comes a cropper (Marker, 1984, p. 325).”
